Annie is a portrait photographer based in Clifton, Bristol. She loves celebrating relationships and people’s love for each other. Whether this is love stories, weddings or families. She says it is a huge privilege to create something so beautiful that will stand the test of time.
We asked Annie some questions…..
Buzzfeed quizzes. Tell me what cheese I am based on, my real estate preferences, any day of the week.
How old were you when you knew you liked taking pictures?
Maybe 5? I was given a pink point-and-shoot camera by my granny. I remember seeing a beautiful sunrise and my mum told me it wouldn't turn out nicely if I tried to photograph it. I proved her wrong (well, at least my 5-year-old self thought so).
Whats the best advice you've ever been given?
When it comes to photos, 'chin' should always be singular." It can be done, even without photoshop!
In 5 words describe your work?
Light, airy, timeless, personal, authentic.
Can't live without?
Succulents. I have quite a few and they bring me lots of joy.
What advice would you give someone wanting to be a photographer or just take pictures for fun?
I taught myself most of what I know through relentless (and slightly obsessive) internet research and practising on my friends. I also learned how to connect with people and make anyone feel comfortable in front of my lens. Do that and you'll get further than most people who study photography at uni.
What do you love about being a photographer?
Being able to capture timeless and priceless images for people that they'll be able to show their grandkids one day. It's an honour to create something that can last so long.
What is the next step in your career?
I love co-operating with other wedding vendors and want to do more styled photography shoots in the future. These can serve as amazing inspiration to brides.
What's the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
I'm German and only moved to the UK when I was 18. When I talk, most people can hear that I am from 'somewhere foreign', but can't place it. You'd make my day if you thought I was a native when you heard me speak!
Favourite holiday destination?
Tuscany. The wine, the food, the landscape, take me there now!
'Breakfast at Tiffany's'
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I've recently gotten into sourdough bread making. I'm still a beginner but the holes in my loaves are beginning to get bigger, which, judging by #igbreadclub posts, is the sign of a good loaf!
Do you like to be photographed yourself?
I do! I had a couple shoot with my husband recently and a family shoot with my family in Germany last year. As photographers, we always say that existing in photos is so important and often we forget to include ourselves in that advice.
You specialise in taking photos of relationships, whether its a couple or parents with their children, do you enjoy photographing anything else?
Yes - our neighbour's cat Ginny, who comes to our house a lot and snoozes on my lap while I edit. She's killing the camera connection so it would be rude not to!
